Congregation Sha’ar Adonai (SA)

The five boroughs of NYC are home to almost two million Jewish people, and is the largest Jewish population center outside of Israel. Congregation Sha’ar Adonai meets on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, across the street from Central Park and down the street from Lincoln Center. This unofficial Jewish hub is home to the Jewish Theological Seminary and the setting of a great deal of meaningful Jewish life and history.

Congregation Sha’ar Adonai is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the central borough of New York City (NYC). NYC touts world class museums, amazing restaurants, unforgettable views, inspiring architecture, unmatched shopping, and the heart of the entertainment industry including the world famous theatres that line Broadway. If you like sports, the Mets, Yankees, Giants, Knicks, Nets, Islanders, Rangers, and the US Open are all in the area. Of course the Statue of Liberty, One World Tower, the Empire State Building, the Bronx Zoo, 30 Rock, and Grand Central Park are all an easy commute from wherever you live in the city.

The Role of a Chosen People Ministries Staff Member

The overarching task of every Chosen People Ministries staff member is to fulfill the Chosen People Ministries mission statement to “pray for, evangelize, disciple, and serve the Jewish people and to encourage, equip, and empower fellow believers to do the same.”

Founded in 1894, Chosen People Ministries reaches the Jewish community globally for Jesus the Messiah. Chosen People Ministries does this by fulfilling the above mission statement.

Responsibilities and Requirements

Qualifications 

  • Must have the qualifications of an Elder (ITim.3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9) 
  • Must be a growing disciple of Messiah Yeshua 
  • Male 
  • Married preferred 
  • Ethnically and culturally Jewish preferred 
  • Master’s Degree in ministry related field preferred 
  • Five years’ experience in vocational Jewish ministry preferred 
  • Must be in full agreement with Sha’ar Adonai/CPM Statement of Faith 
  • Must be willing to accept and abide by Sha’ar Adonai’s/CPM’s policies and Code of Conduct 

Responsibilities and Duties  

Provide Leadership, Vision and Direction for the Ministry of SA  

  • Serve as an Elder of SA  
  • Set the agenda for the meetings of the Elders  
  • Lead the Elders to regularly review, reaffirm or renew as necessary, the mission, vision and values of Shaar Adonai 
  • Lead the congregation in the ministries, programs and outreach of the congregation. 
  • Provide discipleship, modeling, teaching and training for the congregation. 
  • Visit those who are grieving, hospitalized and home bound  
  • Provide Pastoral Counseling and Care 

Provide for the Biblical Preaching and Teaching Ministry of SA which presently include:  

  • Shabbat Morning Service Message 
  • The Torah Study on Shabbat Morning 
  • Midweek Bible study 
  • Messages at all Holiday services 
  • Messages at all Life-Cycle services 

Oversee the Administration of the Congregation  

  • Compliance with all Federal, State and Local Requirements  
  • Timely payment of all bills, debts, obligations and charitable/ministry donations 
  • Receipting of all donations made to the congregation and its ministries 
  • Timely, appropriate communication with the congregation, the community and the greater Body of Messiah 
  • Maintaining an up-to-date congregational fellowship, ministry and missions’ calendar for all SA activities
